In north Adriatic Sea, near Italy, Istria was for centuries favorite destination for vacation of continental countries in the region. It is an idyllic region of towns, forests, vineyards and unique sea coast.
Istria is rich with natural beauties. There is wide variety of Mediterranean plants and flowers. Clear sea waters are full of fish, shrimp, shellfish and other sea animals. Here, fish comes straight to the dish. To many connoisseurs, the white fish and crab of the Adriatic is the best of the world. That is why it has become a place of pilgrimage for the most sophisticated gourmets. Traditional meals are made of healthy sea and locally grown product. Within favorite ingredients one can find home-made pasta crammed with truffles, smoked ham, goat cheese and virgin olive oil. Multitude of vineyards and a special talent of the locals to please themselves and their guests result in fine wines. The best known sorts are Teran, Merlot and Cabernet among the red wines and Malvazija among the white ones.
Pula’s rich history start flourishing in time of Romans who built many of it’s astonishing monuments: Triumphal Arch of the Sergi (Golden Gate), Augustus Temple and Small Roman Theatre. The biggest and the most beautiful among them is Amphitheater. It’s the sixth largest Roman amphitheater in the world. It’s centerpiece where all the site-seeing starts. During the summer season it becomes stage for diverse festivals, operas, concerts and other spectacles under the open sky. Between the mythical tradition and the three thousand years of continuity Pula is a unique Town that gathers so many civilization differences.
On the tip of the Istria semi-island just few kilometers south of Pula is protected natural park Rt Kamenjak which fascinates every visitor with its undisturbed nature, beautiful rocky coasts, with plenty accessible beaches and small natural harbors.
Almost within reach of the entrance to the city harbor stretches a seven kilometers long necklace of islands: the Brijuni Islands. Nature, nudged along by man, has created a real paradise here. The peerless beauty of today protected National Park Brijuni with its rich harmony of flora and fauna, historical monuments and modern hotels still draws politicians and other distinguished guests from all over the world.
Our house and apartments are located in the suburb called “Veruda Porat” only 2 km from the center of Pula. Public transport buses connect the area with the center in 20 minutes intervals. The nearest among few local stores is at 100 m. There are more then few restaurants in surroundings (nearest is just 50 m away). They offer wide variety of the local delicacies and some of the inevitable classics as the French fries or meat steaks.
The beach areas are on walking distance (15 min) with hotels Histrija, Brijuni, Pula, Park, Palma... and with promenades, tennis courts, water slides, as well as scooters and pedal boats to rent. The coast is mainly rocky with plenty reefs and gravel beaches accessible for smaller children. The closest beaches are "Verudela" (1500 m) and "Zlatne Stijene" (500 m).
